    NTT revealed its IOWN roadmap for silicon-photonics applications.

    (2018: IOWN forum founded with Intel and Sony)

    2023: Electric-Optic Converter (Optical Tranceiver) in Co-package Optics Type next to LSI and other components (to replace electric PCI-e and other I/F)

    2025: Silicon-Photonics Imposer implementation / LSI and Interposer in 1 device package

    2030: In-chip optical signal processing

    With this roadmap, NTT promotes the idea of 'disaggregated computing' architecture taking advantage of the optical characteristics. The limitation of electrical lines is already visible in our daily products in the motherboards of PC, HDMI cable length, or datacenters.
