I like the order of this Japanese phrase. Let’s look at the verb conjugation.
信じて - the first part is “to believe and...”
任せる - the second part is “to entrust to another.”
One of Gallup’s 12 Questions of active engagement is, and I paraphrase, “Do I have the tools I need to do my job?”
My rule of thumb has been that I will not ask you to do a task that I don’t know how to do. This might sound conceited. Yet, is there a better way?
Can I entrust a task to someone when I don’t know how to complete the task? This is where “belief” is such a strong defining factor in delegating tasks to others.
Leaders have a mountain load of competing priorities. I have to choose my battles in order to push projects to the finish line. In an age when we can fulfill orders with one click shopping, I can’t possibly know how to do everything.
I can’t afford to be “in the weeds” on everything. I must give you the tools you need to complete the task and “trust” you will get it done!#経営
